SCULPTURES
Hou Guanbin’s sculpture creation has become a
relatively self-contained system. It shows that
he has taken advantage of the popular culture and the
quality of anti-irony thinking significantly to acquire
a stable, constant style and a variable breakthrough in
seeking subjects over the years.
Guanbin’s sculptures drastically subvert the traditional
ones which have sanctity, solemnity and quietness, permanency
and monumentality. These works bring a new kind of sculptural
aestheticism through his popular, anti-elite and ridicule
humorous technique. He has changed the traditional principles
of creation and appreciation according to different image sources
, thus changing the traditional evaluation to sculpture.
Vita
1981, began cartoon- style designs
1997, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Hebei Normal University.
1998, became the Original painting designer of American Oliver cartoon
2008, held a Sculpture Exhibition in Art Base in Beijing
2008, his work named “Female Lion” was collected by Dr. Jacques Rogge, International Olympic Committee President and his wife.
2009, his sequels “Call Back the Spirit of the Dead” was on the 2009 China Sculpture Yearbook Exhibition.
2011, took part in the Art Beijing held in Beijing
2011, took part in the fourth International Youth Day Arts Festival in Beijing.
